ANDROGYNE CULT OF THE TWO-HEADED TURKEY VULTURE
Mut (also spelled Maut), in Egyptian religion and mythology, vulture-headed mother goddess, wife of the great god Amen and mother of Khonsu. Amen, Maut, and Khonsu made up the divine triad at Thebes.
Amen was often portrayed with his consort Mut at his side. She/He was sometimes depicted as the body of a vulture, or as a woman with the head of a vulture, or as a woman wearing a vulture headdress and the united crowns of Upper and Lower Egypt.
Sometimes she was shown standing with winged arms outstretched. In her hands she held the ankh, sign of life, and a papyrus scepter, and at her feet was the feather of Ma'at, which represented Truth.
Egyptian queans wore the symbol of the vulture on their crowns. It is thought that the vulture was adopted as the symbol of divine motherhood because the vulture was known to be particularly conscientious and protective of her chicks, and because the Egyptians believed the vulture reproduced by the power of parthenogenesis, with no need of males.
Mut originally may have been the female counterpart of the waters of the primal abyss, personified as the god Nu, but she later became associated with Amen. As the status of Amen grew in the New Kingdom, and he was consolidated with Ra as Amen-Ra, the status of Mut grew correspondingly.
Amen-Ra's worshipers began to consider him the principal deity, of whom other gods were actually aspects. Mut also followed this trend, and she was considered the personificati
on of the one great goddess; as such all goddesses, including Hathor, Sekhmet, Isis, Bast, Nekhbet, and Nut, were considered aspects of her.
When Amen-Ra was portrayed with every type of animal and human attribute to indicate his stature as an all-encompassing god, Mut would also be portrayed with a multiplicity of attributes; occasionally she was even shown as a man with a penis and claws of a lion.
The 'protestant' center of the worship of Mut, like that of Amen-Ra, was at Thebes, where a great temple dedicated to the goddess was built about 1450 BC by Amenhotep III. An avenue of sphinxes led to this temple which stood just south of Amen-Ra's shrine.
Her 'reform' temple was elaborate, and even contained a sacred artificial lake shaped like a horseshoe. Imagine, her sanctuary at Thebes was an active religious center for 2,000 years only to be replaced at the end times by the Madrassah's radical Islam led by Usama bin Laden.

Like Ted Turner, CNN's founder, he seems to be working for the United Nations, the Persian Medes and SIMA, rather than for the United States.
During wartime this crime is TROJAN HORSE TREASON, and its effect is at least comparable if not much worse, than the actions of the recent suicide bomber in Mosul who killed 22 soldiers and injured dozens more.
Schneider should be arrested and carted off to jail as an enemy combatant for the duration of the war and then placed on trial for treason.
Being in THE MEDIA should not be a permissible defense but could in fact serve as a reason for prosecutors to ask for the death penalty.

GEORGE 'PERICLES' BUSH ?

PERICLES (495?-429 BC). The "glory that was Greece" reached its height in the 5th century BC, in Athens, under the leadership of the statesman Pericles. He opened Athenian democracy to the ordinary citizen, he built the magnificent temples and statues on the Acropolis, and he created the Athenian empire.
Pericles was born in Athens in about 495 BC to a family of wealth and position. His father, Xanthippus, was also a statesman, and his mother, Agariste, was a member of the politically powerful Alcmaeonid family. Pericles himself first gained fame in the spring of 472, when he provided and trained the chorus for Aeschylus' play 'The Persians'.
Pericles was first elected strategos, or general, in 458. Generals were elected yearly to devise and carry out the strategy necessary to manage the affairs of state at home and abroad. Pericles won reelection frequently for about 30 years. In a time of kings and tyrants as rulers, his policy at home was to place the state in the hands of the whole body of citizens under the rule of law.
The Assembly made the laws, the Council of 500 executed them, and popular courts judged those who broke them. About 451 a law restricting Athenian citizenship to those of Athenian parentage on both sides was passed with Pericles' support.
About this time the war with Persia finally ended. The Delian League, a confederation of Greek city-states, had been formed against Xerxes and the Persians. Each of the states was assessed accor
ding to its ability to pay. Some of the larger islands, such as Naxos, were able to contribute their own ships, but most could not. Instead they contributed money, and Athens built the ships in its shipyards and recruited crews. Pericles increased the size of the navy and instituted payment of wages to crewmen.
In 454 the treasury of the league was transferred from Delos to Athens. Pericles used the defense money to rebuild the temples of the gods that had been destroyed by the Persians in 480. Pericles argued that the allies were paying for their defense and, if that were assured, Athens did not have to account for how the money was spent. In 447 work started on the Parthenon, and the sculptor Phidias began work on the statue of Athena.
Pericles realized his ambition to make Athens, "the queen of Hellas," not only the most beautiful but the most powerful of the Greek states. He lived also to see the states of the Peloponnesus, under Sparta's leadership, rise against Athens' overgrown power in the Peloponnesian War.
The closing years of his life were times of storm and trouble. While Athens was besieged by the enemy outside the walls, a terrible plague raged within. For the first time Pericles fell from popular favor and was deposed from office. He was even fined 50 talents on a charge of embezzlement. Only a few weeks later the people repented and reinstated him with greater powers than before. But weakness from an attack of plague killed Pericles the following autumn.
The speeches of Pericles were not written down and preserved.
However, Thucydides in his history of the Peloponnesian War provides some idea of Pericles' power as an orator.
The funeral oration that he has Pericles deliver in honor of the dead during the first year of the Peloponnesian War is especially noble: "Of all cities Athens alone is even greater than her fame. She needs no poet to sing her praises; every land and every sea can furnish proofs of her enterprise and success. Her enemies when defeated are not disgraced; her subjects confess that she is worthy to rule them." Of Athens' dead he says: "To men who fall as they have fallen death is no evil."

In addition to the main body of Shi'ite believers, there are a number of fairly extremist sects that, REPORTEDLY, have broken away.
The largest group is the Isma'ilis. The difference originates in the identity of the seventh imam. The main body of Shi'ah accepted Musa, but the Isma'ili recognized instead his brother Isma'il. Since his disappearance, they await his return and hence are usually called Seveners, instead of Twelvers, the name applied to orthodox Shi'ites.
The seven imams recognized by the Isma'ilis are, in a sense, higher in excellence than the Prophet because they receive their teachings directly from God Himself (SIMA). Isma'ilis may be found mainly in East Africa, Yemen, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
The Isma'ilis are divided into two groups: the Nizaris and the Musta'lis. The head of the Nizaris is the Aga Khan, believed to be a direct descendant of 'Ali. The Musta'lis live mostly around Bombay, India, and have their own spiritual head.
Ultimate control (above ground), over SIMA's ISLAM underground (MAFIA), rests with the FIVERS. The Zaydi or Zaidi (Zaydites) are FIVERS. They are concentrated in the northern mountains of Yemen. See Y.E.MEN "Y's men" (wise men).

Isma'ili Assassins - Have Sword Will Travel
ISMA FRIENDS OF SIMA OFFER BEHEADINGS ON DEMAND
Shi'ites are particularly prone to schism, and one of their most successful and prosperous groups is the Isma'ilis. They are further divided into the Musta'lis and the Nizaris, who pay allegiance to the Aga Khan.
The adoption of assassination as a political weapon derives from the Islamic world of the 11th century. A secret order of Muslims was founded in Persia in about 1090, just prior to the start of Christian CRUSADES to Jerusalem, by a man named Hasan-e Sabbah. (See O'SABA)
After gaining control of a mountain fortress near the Caspian Sea, Hasan founded a sect to fight his political enemies by means of murder.
Hasan and his followers were known as Nizaris (NAZIS) and belonged to the Isma'ili branch of Islam. For two centuries this secret organization terrorized the Middle East.
Hasan, who gained the nickname Old Man of the Mountains from his fortress hideaway, is said to have given his followers a vision-inducing drug called hashish, made from Indian hemp. The visions of Islamic paradise brought on by the drug persuaded his disciples they would have a glorious afterlife if they followed Hasan's orders and killed his enemies. The killers were called Hashshashin, the plural of a word meaning "one who smokes hashish." This name was eventually corrupted into its present form, Assassins.
The Assassins were a threat to the stability of
the Middle East until 1256, when the Mongol khan Hulagu stormed their fortresses and massacred 12,000 of them.
A branch of their organization in Syria was almost destroyed by the Egyptian sultan Baybars I a few years later. Isma'lis still comprise approximately 1% of Syria's population.
From that time on, the sect of Assassins became little more than another Muslim faction for hire, with no independent political influence of their own.
Followers of the sect are still to be found throughout Central Asia and India.

ZEUS, the principal god of the Greek pantheon, ruler of the heavens, and father of other gods and mortal heroes was his father, and ARTEMIS was his sister.
He is sometimes identified with Hyperion, the TITAN he succeeded. As a representative of controlled and ordered nature, Apollo is often contrasted with DIONYSUS, the god who represents wild, creative energies.

MANICHAEANISM, or MANICHAEISM
The Babylonian (Iraqi) prophet Mani founded the religion known as Manichaeanism in the 3rd century AD.
Scholars believe that Manichaeanism was a form of Gnosticism, a system of belief based on the importance of grasping religious mysteries with the mind. In Manichaeanism, as in all types of Gnosticism, salvation was achieved through knowledge rather than through good works or divine grace.
Manichaeanism also combined elements of the major religions existing at the time, especially Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and Parsiism.
Manichaeanism featured a highly detailed and exhaustive cosmogony, or theory explaining the origin of the universe, based on the idea of two conflicting urges--good, or light, and evil, or darkness. According to Mani the universe was created out of a battle between the forces of darkness and those of light. In order to defeat the lords of darkness, reportedly God allowed light to enter their bodies to purify them. The world was formed from these bodies, and though Manichaeanism perceived it as generally evil, matter still contained particles of light. As such, all matter, including human beings, was seen as a combination of good and evil, or as light trapped within darkness.
Manichaeans believed that to attain salvation they had to live a life of self-denial centered around fasting and chastity. Individuals who were able to fully follow Mani's teachings were called the elect. Ordinary Manichaeans, called hearer
s, were allowed to work and marry but still were expected to practice self-denial.
Mani was born in about AD 215 in what is now Iraq.
At the age of 12, Mani is said to have been visited by an angel, who told him to live chastely and after 12 years to declare himself a prophet. He did as the angel instructed, but his teachings were not well received in his native land, which was ruled by the Sassanids, a dynasty of rulers who followed Zoroastrianism.
Mani traveled abroad for a number of years, preaching and founding Manichaean communities.
When he returned to Babylonia, he converted the Sassanid prince, who arranged for an audience with his brother, King Sapor I. The king, however, found Mani's ideas distasteful and eventually threw him in prison, where he remained until Sapor's death in 274. Although the king's successor supported Mani's teachings, he ruled for only one year. His successor, Bahram I--perhaps fearing Mani's support among his political rivals--had him crucified and embarked on a fierce campaign of persecution of Mani's followers.
Manichaeanism spread throughout Turkey, China, India, and the Middle East and as far west as Spain.
Throughout its history it was severely persecuted wherever it existed, especially in Rome. Its popularity in the West dwindled after about the 6th century, but it retained a limited following until the 10th century.
From the 9th century on Manichaeanism morphed into Christianity's (Aryan NATSI) Holy Roman emp

Sol and Mani, in Norse mythology, the sun and moon, or more precisely, the beings who drove the sun and moon in their courses through the sky.
Sol and Mani were sister and brother, and both were fair and beautiful.
After the gods had created the sky, they made the sun from molten sparks that had flown out of the fiery realm of Muspelheim, and they set it in the sky to illuminate the world. For some reason the gods became angry at Sol and Mani, or at their father, Mundilfari, and they took the two to guide the sun and moon in their paths.
Sol was forced to drive the sun's chariot and to guide its two horses, Arvak and Alsvinn. Sol had to travel at great speed, pursued by a wolf named Skoll who would eventually devour her.
The boy, Mani, was forced to guide the course of the moon. He also controlled its waxing and waning. In some accounts, Mani himself kidnapped two humans, a girl named Bil (Waning) and a boy named Hiuki (Waxing), children of Vidfinn, as they were leaving a well called Byrgir. Thereafter he forced them to travel with him, as could be seen in the moon's phases. Mani, too, had to travel swiftly, because the moon hound, Hati Hrodvitnisson, followed in pursuit.
The Vikings believed that when the two wolves caught up with the sun and moon, they would swallow them and all the stars would disappear from the sky. (See Nuclear Winter, a worldwide darkening and cooling of the atmosphere with consequent devastation of surviving life forms, believed by some scientis
ts to be a probable outcome of large-scale nuclear war.)

FATHER OF HYPOCRISY
Saint Augustine
AUGUSTINE OF HIPPO (354-430). The bishop of Hippo in Roman Africa for 35 years, St. Augustine lived during the decline of Roman civilization on that continent. Considered the greatest of the Fathers of the Church in the West, he helped form Christian theology.
Augustine was born Aurelius Augustinus on Nov. 13, 354, at Tagaste in the Roman province of Numidia (now Souk-Ahras in Algeria). Although his mother, St. Monica, was a devout Christian, he was not baptized in infancy. His father, Patricius, a wealthy landowner, was a pagan.
In his 'Confessions' Augustine wrote seven chapters about an incident in his early life--stealing pears from a neighbor's tree. This sin troubled him for the rest of his life. He also confessed to immoral behavior at the University of Carthage, where he was sent at the age of 16.
Augustine remained in Carthage, teaching rhetoric, until he was 29. Then he went to Rome, taking with him his mistress and his son, Adeodatus. His religion at this time was Manichaeism, which combined Christianity with Zoroastrian elements.
By 386 Augustine was teaching in Milan, where his mother joined him. He came under the influence of the city's great bishop, St. Ambrose, who baptized Augustine and Adeodatus on the following Easter.
From this time Augustine lived as an ascetic. He returned to Africa and spent three years with friends on his family's estate. He was ordained a priest and five years later, in 396, was cons
ecrated a bishop. He spent the remainder of his life in Hippo (now Annaba, Algeria) with his clergy, encouraging the formation of religious communities. Augustine, who was ill when the Vandals besieged Hippo, died on Aug. 28, 430, before the town was taken.
Augustine's most widely read book is 'Confessions', a vivid account of his early life and religious development. 'The City of God' was written after 410, when Rome fell to the barbarians. The aim of this book was to restore confidence in the Christian church, which Augustine said would take the place of the earthly city of Rome. During the Middle Ages the book gave strong support to the theory that the church was above the state.
Augustine's writings on communal life form the 'Rule of St. Augustine', the basis of many religious orders.

THE GREEK CANCER ON EUROPE AND THE WORLD
AEGEAN CIVILIZATION : The earliest civilization in Europe appeared on the coasts and islands of the Aegean Sea. This body of water is a branch of the Mediterranean Sea. It is bounded by the Greek mainland on the west, Asia Minor (now Turkey) on the east, and the island of Crete on the south. Here, while the rest of Europe was still in the Stone Age, the Minoan-Mycenaean peoples achieved a highly organized Bronze Age culture, the Aegean civilization that spread its influence from Mycenae to many parts of the Mediterranean region from about 1580 to 1120 B.C
In 1952 great light was thrown on the Mycenaean civilization by the deciphering of an ancient writing on clay tablets, known as Linear Script B. Michael Ventris, a young English architect, accomplished the task on which scholars had labored for 50 years.
These tablets were among some 2,000 uncovered at Knossos on Crete by Evans. With them were tablets in an older writing, which Evans called Linear Script A, and some still older hieroglyphics. Linear Scripts A and B are forms of writing in which symbols are used to represent syllables. In 1939 about 600 more tablets 0n Linear Script B were found at Pylos, on the Greek mainland, and in 1952 and 1953 some were discovered at Mycenae.
Ventris found that Linear Script B is an archaic Greek dialect. It is the oldest Indo-European system of writing yet discovered. The language is at a stage 700 years older than the earliest classical Greek. The tablets appeared at Knossos because the Mycenaeans had earlier conquered the Minoans. Th
e tablets are only inventories of palace storerooms and arsenals; however, they reveal a great deal about the Mycenaeans.
They engaged in agriculture, industry, commerce, and war. A king headed the society. The son of Atreus, who was the king of Mycenae in Greece, Agamemnon was probably a historical personage, a king who ruled either at Mycenae or at nearby Argos during the Trojan War. Under him was a "leader of the people," perhaps an army commander.
There were landowners, tenant farmers, servants and slaves, priests and priestesses. There were many trades and professions. The Mycenaeans worshiped Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Ares, Artemis, and Athena and the other gods of Mount Olympus.
The language of Linear Script A has not yet been deciphered. It was in use on Crete from about 1700 BC to 1600 BC as a replacement for an earlier hieroglyphic writing system--possibly adopted from the Egyptians.
In about 1100 BC Greece was overrun by an invasion of barbaric tribes from the north. The Dorians and, later, the Ionians occupied the areas where the Minoan-Mycenaean cultures had flourished. Greece was not to be so rich and powerful again until the golden age of Athens under Pericles in the 5th century BC.

Kyoga, Lake : An irregularly shaped lake of central Uganda. The shallow lake is noted for its papyrus swamps.
yoga : In HINDUISM, a set of mental and physical exercises aimed at producing spiritual enlightenment. The physical exercises associated with yoga are often self-taught.
Kyogen : Japanese No plays. The medieval dance drama of the No theater came in part from Chinese sources. Actors in No plays perform on a usually bare stage about 18 feet (5.5 meters) square and on a narrow runway leading to the stage from the dressing room. They are accompanied by drums, a high-pitched flute, and chanting by a chorus of six or eight men. All parts, including female roles, are played by men and boys. There are only two important roles--the shite, or principal character, and the waki, or subordinate character.
Both the shite and the waki wear handsomely embroidered costumes patterned upon medieval court dress. The shite usually wears a painted mask carved from wood. Joy, sorrow, or anger may be represented by slightly changing the position of the mask on the actor's face. Different masks are used to represent men, women, elderly persons, gods, and demons. In most of the 240 No plays performed in Japan today, the shite changes his costume and mask for the second half of the performance to reveal his true character. He may change, for example, from a beautiful
woman to a demon or from a boy to a warrior. Often, the waki is a Buddhist priest and the shite is the ghost of a person who, suffering for evil he committed during his lifetime, seeks and obtains help from the priest for the peace of his soul.
A No performance neither looks nor sounds like real life. Movement is extremely slow. If the play requires, for example, a boat or a hut, these are represented by a skeletal framework which only suggests their shape. A folding fan in the hands of an actor may represent a variety of objects--a sword, a letter, the rising moon, or falling rain. The text is ancient poetry, difficult even for many Japanese to understand.
The traditional No program consisted of five plays with short comic pieces called kyogen performed between them. The usual program now, however, consists of three plays, each lasting an hour or longer, and two kyogen. The kyogen are a complete contrast to the serious No plays, for they are acted vigorously and amusingly and deal with such matters as servants outwitting their masters or husbands their wives.
SEESAW
A form of Japanese theater using live actors, Kabuki began around the same time as Bunraku. It originated in Kyoto with new kinds of dances performed by a woman named Okuni in the early 1600s. These became highly popular, and Okuni was imitated by other actresses and actors. But the Japanese government, deciding that the performances were immoral, decreed in 1629 that women
could no longer appear on the stage. Women's roles were taken over by men, and this practice continues in modern Kabuki.

CNN, some Senators, the Democrats and the UN are now suggesting that with the US not having enough body armour for the military that this should have been sufficient enough reason for Donald Rumsfeld and the BUSH Administration to have delayed the Iraq war another six months while they armoured up.
What they really mean is that with an additional six months the UN Food for Oil scam could have produced another six billion dollars in kickbacks and that the French, Russians and Chinese could have increased the insurgents explosive and arms cache by another 200,000 tons, from the 800,000 tons which they had already delivered to Saddam.
Instead of 1,300 dead American soldiers so far, obviously the axis would prefer to see that number being closer to 2,000.

The main enemy of freedom is a Trojan Horse Free Press embedded within the national boundaries of the defenders of freedom, whose purpose it is to demoralize the populace in order to manufacture their consent towards moving 'their opinion' away from their government's goal of defending freedom.

El NINO (OR EL BIGGO) IS ON THE WAY
Off of New Zealand, in the Pacific ocean, a giant 112 mile diameter iceberg is making its way north.
My question is, whether or not, this iceberg is travelling on its own or if it is being towed to its final location from below, by a nuclear submarine.
The answer is critical, because this PHILOSOPHER'S STONE'S actual size and exact location when it arrives at its final destination, where it will melt somewhere above the Tropic of Capricorn and below the Equator, and where its energy will then ascend and be converted into a perfect tropical storm, on the next segment of its journey north.
The resulting TYPHOON or HURRICANE and its final location, once it eventually makes landfall, will thus determine how many people will die as the iceberg induced storm's fury of wind and water descends back down to earth.

Buddhism in the West
Western thinkers have been interested in Buddhism for nearly 200 years, from the time of German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer.
European artists, scholars, and philosophers started Buddhist study groups in Europe early in the 19th century.
Buddhism traveled to the United States with 19th-century immigrants.
Many Buddhists arriving from Asia established communities and temples to continue their religious practices. At first, the largest communities were on the West coast, where the immigrants arrived. Now there are Buddhist communities throughout the United States. Many different schools of Buddhism are represented, the two fastest growing being Zen and Tibetan Buddhism.
Many Westerners have become so deeply interested in Buddhism that they are becoming Buddhist teachers themselves. In the United States the centuries-old religion is undergoing yet another major transformation. Much as it has been adapted before to so many cultures, Buddhism is being modified to fit 20th-century American ideas and culture.
The Buddha himself seemed to know that Buddhism would never die if it maintained this pattern of new growth. When someone asked him how a drop of water could be prevented from ever drying up, he answered, "by throwing it into the sea." See FLOOD
BUDDHISM. The religion of about one eighth of the world's people, Buddhism is the name for a complex system of beliefs developed around the teachings of a single man.
The Buddha, whose name was Siddhartha Gautama, lived 2,500 years ago in India. There are now dozens of different schools of Buddhist philosophy throughout Asia. These schools, or sects, have different writings and languages and have grown up in different cultures.
There is no one single "Bible" of Buddhism, but all Buddhists share some basic beliefs.
Buddhism is a Western word. The religion is known in the East as the Buddha-Dharma, or the teachings of the Buddha. These teachings, based on his personal experience of Enlightenment, or Awakening, form the foundation of Buddhism. For every Buddhist the religion is both a discipline and a body of beliefs: that is, Buddhists share beliefs about the nature of the world and how to act within it.
Budh in the Indian Sanskrit language means "to wake up, to know."
Buddha means "the Awakened or Enlightened One," and all Buddhist teachings try to share the Buddha's experience of awakening to truth.
Having led an indulgent life as a young man, Siddhartha Gautama decided to pursue a course of bitter self-denial. Yet he felt that this brought him no closer to the truth he sought than the rich life he had led. One day he felt close to reaching his truth, and he sat down under a tree now known as the Bo tree (short for Bodhi, or "enlightenment"). There he attained the bliss and knowledge he had been seeking. Legend has it that, though tempted by evil demons, he sat quietly under the tree for 49 days. This became known as the I
mmovable Spot.
He devoted the rest of his many years, until his death at the age of 80, to wandering through India teaching the people.

MORE SIMA FRIENDS
MENNONITES. The era of the 16th-century Protestant Reformation in Europe spawned a number of radical reform groups, among them the Anabaptists. These Christians regarded the Bible as their only rule for faith and life. They denied the merit of infant baptism, however. Some Anabaptists were revolutionaries. Others, like Menno Simons (1496-1561), were more moderate. Because of their radical beliefs, the Anabaptists were persecuted by other Protestants as well as by Roman Catholics.
Simons, a Dutch priest, gathered the scattered Anabaptists of Northern Europe into congregations in 1536. These groups soon came to be called by his name. By the late 16th century the Mennonites had found political toleration in the Netherlands.
Some groups had moved meanwhile to Poland and to Ukraine.
Later persecutions drove many into southern Germany, eastern France, and especially to North America. Today the heaviest concentrations are in Canada and the United States. The Mennonite villages in Soviet Ukraine were dispersed after World War II.
Other groups similar to the Mennonites are the Amish and the Hutterites, both of which have settlements in North America.
The early Mennonites believed they should live in complete separation from the world around them. They tended, therefore, to establish their own communities; Hutterites still do. They were nevertheless zealous in mission work and acts of charity.
With the passage of time the separation from the world diminished. Through their various organizations--the Old Mennonite Church, the General Conference Mennonite Church, and the Mennonite Brethren--they continue their missions and charitable work.
Since 1925 there has been a Mennonite World Conference that meets every five years.
Missionaries from Europe and North America started congregations in Latin America, Africa, India, and Oceania.
The denomination also supports colleges and seminaries.

Amish, a branch of the Mennonite church, named from Jacob Ammon, or Amen, who founded it in Switzerland and s. Germany 1698, insisting on strict interpretation of Mennonite principles; many members migrated to Pennsylvania 1730-40, later to Ohio, Indiana, and other states.

SIMA'S FRIENDS
QUAKERS. In 1652 George Fox, standing on high Pendle Hill in England, had a vision. This was the beginning of the Religious Society of Friends. Its members are commonly called Quakers. A magistrate first used this name in Derby in 1650, when Fox was on trial for his beliefs. His followers trembled during religious excitement, and Fox bade the judge to "tremble at the word of the Lord."
George Fox believed, as the Puritans did, that the formal practices of the Church of England violated the spirit of Christianity. He taught that people can worship God directly without help from clergy. His followers refused to attend the services of the Church of England or to pay tithes for its support. They refused to take oaths on the ground that an oath recognizes a double standard of truth. They were frugal and plain in dress and speech.
The authorities persecuted them with fines, confiscation of property, and imprisonment. Nevertheless the sect flourished. In 1689 the Toleration Act ended the persecution. Meanwhile, Quakers could settle freely in America on a large grant of land given to the Quaker William Penn in 1681.
The Hicksites separated from the orthodox Quakers in 1827, and there were other divisions.
Quakers still reflect the teachings of Fox. They do not sanction taking part in war because they feel that war causes spiritual damage through hatred. Most Quakers therefore refuse to give military service, but individuals follow their own convictions.
The Friends have no ritual, sacr
aments, or ordained clergy. They appoint elders and overseers to serve at each meeting. Men and women who have received a "gift" are called recorded ministers. The meeting for worship is held "on the basis of silence." Members speak in prayer or testimony as the "Inward Light" moves them. After an hour the meeting ends with the members shaking hands. Congregations generally hold a meeting for business every month.
In the 19th century Quakers in the United States founded a number of colleges and universities with an emphasis on science.
Because Friends were trusted and extended credit, they became active in banking and insurance.
Quakers are also active in welfare work and social reform. The American Friends Service Committee, founded during World War I, organizes relief and service projects not only in the United States but throughout the world.
QUAKERS II
HICKS, Edward (1780-1849). A painter of signs and carriages, as well as a popular preacher, Edward Hicks is remembered best as an American primitive painter. He was especially fond of the idea of 'The Peaceable Kingdom', based on the Biblical quotation that begins, "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb . . . "(Isaiah 11:6-9). It is thought that Hicks may have completed as many as 100 versions of this painting, though only about 25 still exist.
Edward Hicks was born in Attleboro (now Langhorne), Pa., on April 4, 1780, during the Revolutionary War. His mother died when he was
only a few years old, and Edward was adopted by David and Elizabeth Twining, who were prosperous Quaker farmers. Between the ages of 13 and 20 Hicks worked as an apprentice in a coach maker's shop, and it was there that he learned his trade.
In 1803 he joined the Religious Society of Friends, or Quakers.
Hicks became a Quaker preacher and was soon much in demand for his sermons. He settled in Newtown, Pa. Here he supported his family by maintaining a shop where he painted signs, carriages, and furniture and also produced the primitive art for which he is known. He died in Newtown on Aug. 23, 1849.
Hicks's favorite subject, 'The Peaceable Kingdom', with its carefully painted animals and children and showing William Penn and the Indians in the distance, seems to express the belief that the Quakers in some way represented the realization of Isaiah's prophecy. His first version of this painting dates from 1830.
Other paintings for which he is known are 'The Falls of Niagara', painted about 1835; 'The Residence of David Twining' (1845-48); 'The Cornell Farm' (1848); and 'Noah's Ark', painted just before his death.

The reason they are called laypersons is because many, if not most, are known to the general public, attend Masonic lodges, and therefore are the first persons to be screwed in times of need.

Ukrainian Parliamentarian Suggests Jailing Freemasons
Ukrainian MP Taras Chornovil has suggested that the country's parliament, the Supreme Rada, introduce criminal responsibility for Freemasonry, the Mig News web-site reported on Tuesday.
Taras Chornovil is the son of the late nationalist leader Vyacheslav Chornovil, and his appointment as an adviser to presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovich on West-Ukrainian affairs earlier this year provoked much criticism in nationalist circles.
He will head Yanukovich's campaign headquarters in the repeat of the controversial second round of Ukrainian presidential elections. He has submitted to the Rada a bill entitled "On amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine", according to which, membership of Freemason organizations, or any other organizations that require rituals and oaths of higher priority than the current law, must be punished by a jail sentence of up to three years.
The bill also reads that the members of Masonic organizations who are Ukrainian civil servants, law enforcers or military servicemen must be jailed for three to seven years. Ukraine's president, members of parliament, civil servants of ministerial rank, military servicemen and law enforcers of the rank of major-general or higher, if discovered to be members of Freemason organizations, may face up to 10 years in prison.
If the mem
bership in a Masonic organization causes deaths, a threat to Ukraine's national integrity or its defense potential, members of the organization must be imprisoned for 10 to 15 years, the bill reads.
In February, the leader of Ukraine's Socialist Party, Aleksander Moroz, said that about 300 of Ukraine's top officials were members of the St. Stanislaus Order Masonic Lodge.
Later, other left-wing parties and also the pro-Western bloc headed by Yulia Tymoshenko also called on the government to ban the St Stanislaus Order in Ukraine.

Analysis of the forces of compression and tension in the Earth's crust, obtained from monitoring earthquakes indicates that the typical continental structure consists of a series of layers.
The type of crust that underlies the continents and continental shelves has distinctive rocky and chemical properties. Although the character of the continental crust is still not perfectly understood, studies in different parts of the world suggest that there is considerable variety in the makeup of the crust.
The crust is generally considered to be everything above a zone called the Mohorovicic Discontinuity, or Moho.
This transitional zone is located where earthquake shock-wave transmission suddenly changes from about 4.3 miles (7 kilometers) per second to about 4.8 miles (7.8 kilometers) per second. It is believed that such a transition can be caused by a change in uniform material to a denser state.
This so-called M-discontinuity varies in depth from 3 miles (5 kilometers) under the deep oceans to 40 miles (70 kilometers) under the Andes Mountains, with an average depth of 19 miles (30 kilometers).
There is also another zone of relatively low seismic velocity and low rigidity, possibly due to partial melting, that lies below the Moho within the upper mantle, between 37 and 155 miles (60 and 250 kilometers) deep.
Everything above this low-velocity zone is termed lithosphere, meaning rocky sphere, of wh
ich the crust and Moho are a part.
Chemically, continental crust is termed sial, meaning that it is rich in silica-alumina rock. In contrast with continental crust, the basalt-type of ocean crust is termed sima because it is rich in silica-magnesium rock.

The colorful tales called the 'Arabian Nights' have come down through the centuries. Only Christian Crusaders, the Knights Templar, know who told them first or where, though they existed as early as the 10th century. Of Middle East origin, the tales have given to the world such interesting heroes or rogues as Sinbad the Sailor, Ali Baba and the story of the 40 thieves, and Aladdin and his magic lamp.
The legendary heroine of the tales of the 'Thousand and One Nights' is a girl named Scheherazade. It was said of Scheherazade that she was "learned, prudent, and witty." She was the elder of the two daughters of the grand vizier (chief councilor of state) of a Mongolian kingdom that lay somewhere between Arabia and China. The younger daughter was named Dunyazad. The ruler of the kingdom was Sultan Shahriyar.
The Sultan's Revenge
Shahriyar loved his first wife dearly, but the sultana betrayed him. His brother, the ruler of a neighboring kingdom, had had the same experience. Shahriyar, crushed and angry, ordered the grand vizier to put the sultana to death. Then the sultan decided to revenge himself on all women. He issued a decree stating that he would take a new wife each night and have her executed the next morning.
For three years the sultan's cruel order was carried out. The kingdom was in danger of losing all its eligible young women. Many parents with young daughters fled the land.
At last, Sche
herazade conceived a plan to put an end to the daily executions. She asked her father to present her to Shahriyar as his next bride. The grand vizier was horrified, but finally he yielded. Scheherazade, accompanied by her sister, Dunyazad, was taken to the sultan.
Scheherazade Begins the First Tale
Shahriyar was pleased with Scheherazade's beauty and wit. He warned the grand vizier, however, that she would not be spared the fate of his previous wives. After the marriage Scheherazade wept because she had to leave her sister. She begged the sultan to permit Dunyazad to sleep in the bridal chamber. Shahriyar was surprised but granted her request.
Just before daybreak, as Scheherazade had previously planned, Dunyazad begged her sister to tell once more one of the delightful stories for which she was famous. The sultan became interested and agreed to listen. So began the first of the tales, or allegories, called the 'Arabian Nights'.
Scheherazade's plan was to tell her story up to its most interesting point and then stop, leaving Shahriyar in suspense. To hear the end of the tale, he decided to let Scheherazade live for another night. Her supply of stories was so large that her scheme worked for a thousand and one nights.
During this time Scheherazade bore the sultan three sons. He became convinced of her wisdom and wifely devotion. In the end he revoked his barbaric decree, and HE continued to live happily together.

ARABIAN NIGHTS
Where the 'Arabian Nights' originated is not generally known. The tale of Scheherazade is PURE fiction. It merely serves to bind the stories together. An ancient Persian book was named 'A Thousand and One Nights'. Scheherazade and her Bluebeard husband, Shahriyar, were in it. The framework of this Persian collection, however, differs somewhat from that of the versions that are known today.
The fairy tales in the more modern collections had a Persian origin. The beast tales undoubtedly came from India. The anecdotes and the stories with morals are distinctly Arabic. There are also tales that must have come from China and Japan.
It was during the later part of the 8th century, before the Christian Crusades, that the stories were introduced into the court of Harun al-Raschid, the Moslem caliph of Baghdad. Harun al-Raschid was a scholar, a poet, and a patron of literature. He loved the stories. The storytellers of his court flattered the caliph by making him the hero of many of their tales. Harun al-Raschid liked to disguise himself and roam among his subjects in the streets of Baghdad. It is in this role that he usually appears in the 'Arabian Nights'.
