Araucan : 1. A member of a widespread group of South American Indian peoples of south-central Chile and the western pampas of Argentina. 2. The language of the Araucanians, which constitutes an independent language family. [Spanish araucano, from Arauco, a former region of southern Chile.]

Arauca : A river rising in northern Colombia and flowing about 805 km (500 mi) eastward to the Orinoco River in central Venezuela.

On Saturday night, when he shrugged off the absence of a maple leaf in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics logo, organizing committee CEO John Furlong heralded a new era in Canadian national symbolism: the descent of the maple leaf, and the rise of the inukshuk.

"It was time for us to go on and find a new mark," Mr. Furlong said of the maple leaf,.........

.......He might have added: "Whatever those are." Because if anything is clear from the inukshuk's recent rise in the public mind -- on beer labels and in bank ads, as a monument of joy or grief, in the name of an Internet company and a polar bear at the Toronto Zoo....

......Three years ago, for example, when Pope John Paul II arrived in Canada for World Youth Day and was honoured with a new inukshuk on Toronto's waterfront....,

Another stands at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, and another at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

CLOVIS (466-511). The founder and king of the Frankish kingdom that dominated Western Europe in the early Middle Ages was Clovis of Frankfurt am Main. He reportedly became a great warrior after his conversion to Christianity when he was about 30 years old. 

During a battle with a neighboring tribe of German Teutons in 496, Clovis' warriors were being driven from the field. Their gods Odin and Thor seemed to have failed them. Then, reportedly, Clovis remembered that his wife, Clotilda, had urged him to become a Christian. He reportedly cried out, "Oh, Christ Jesus, I beseech thee for aid! Clovis had rallied his men and gained a victory, and within a few years, he and some of his warriors were baptized. But at heart Clovis remained the same rough warrior he had been before. When the monks told him the story of Christ's crucifixion, he clutched his battle-ax and cried: "If I had been there with my Franks, I would have revenged his wrongs!"

When Clovis at the age of 16 became king of the Salian (ARYAN or PERSIAN) tribe of the Franks, these German ancestors of the modern French nation were a scattered people with a number of kings. When he died, 30 years later, he had united all the Franks into a single powerful nation under his own rule. He overthrew the Roman Empire's power in Gaul in a battle near Soissons in 486, and before his death in Paris he had won for his people a kingdom that reached from the Rhine on the north and east almost to the Pyrenees on the south. So complete was the conquest by the Franks that this land ever since has been called F.ran.ce (as in o.ran.ge).

Clovis is remembered as the father of the Vatican's Teutonic/Tectonic HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE.
